4ᵉ édition du Festival du Film Hongkongais de Paris
The 4th edition of the Festival du Film Hongkongais de Paris (FFHKP), held from 7 to 16 November 2025, was met with a strong and enthusiastic response from Parisian audiences, the Hong Kong diaspora, and international viewers interested in contemporary Hong Kong cinema. Under the theme “Ancrage”, the festival invited audiences to reflect on questions of identity, belonging, and historical continuity, in dialogue with Hong Kong’s long history of migration and the current realities of exile and displacement. Through a carefully curated programme, the FFHKP reaffirmed its role as a cultural platform fostering exchange and understanding. Festival highlights A rich and thought-provoking programme This edition presented 7 new feature films, 3 short films, 4 retrospective sections and 2 preview screenings, offering a wide-ranging view of Hong Kong cinema across generations and genres. Highly engaged post-screening discussions Audience participation was particularly strong during post-screening talks. The screening of The Way We Talk was followed by a well-attended and extended cine-debate, where discussions addressed issues of language, disability, inclusion and coexistence, demonstrating the film’s ability to spark meaningful public dialogue. Strong resonance of diasporic narratives The Voices of the Diaspora programme attracted significant attention, highlighting how Hong Kong stories speak to broader global experiences of migration and identity. A dialogue between film heritage and contemporary creation Retrospectives and curated programmes created connections between historical works and present-day filmmaking, enriching the audience’s understanding of Hong Kong’s cinematic and social evolution. A growing cultural platform Since its inception in 2022, the Festival du Film Hongkongais de Paris has continued to grow in both scope and audience. The success of this fourth edition confirms the festival’s importance within Paris’s cultural landscape and its role in supporting the visibility and continuity of Hong Kong cinema in France.

Exhibition: Hong Kong: Through Memories – Pen So
Since 6 February 2025, the exhibition Hong Kong: Through Memories has been on view at DIMDAN MAIDAN, presenting an exceptional selection of drawings from Pen So’s landmark works, See You in Memories and City of Darkness. Through detailed and evocative illustrations, Pen So revisits old Hong Kong, capturing the city’s unique atmosphere, the vibrancy of its streets, and the enduring spirit of the Kowloon Walled City. His work moves between personal memory and collective history, offering a sensitive portrayal of an urban landscape shaped by constant change and disappearance. This exhibition marks the first collaboration between CUBE and the Hong Kong restaurant DIMDAN MAIDAN, creating an authentic setting in which art and Hong Kong culture come together in Paris. The project invites visitors to experience Hong Kong not only as a physical place, but as a living archive of memories, stories and everyday life.

Taste of City of Darkness – An evening of art, memory and taste
On 6 February 2025, Taste of City of Darkness took place at DIMDAN MAIDAN in Paris, offering an immersive experience in which art, memory and food were deeply intertwined. The event received a strong and engaged response from the audience. During the talk, Lok Kan Cheung shared her personal connection to the Kowloon Walled City, reflecting on how this vanished place continues to inform her work on memory, resilience and cultural transformation. Artist Pen So then introduced his artistic practice, explaining how his drawings revisit old Hong Kong by capturing both the density of its urban landscapes and the vulnerability of a world in constant transition. Taste as a carrier of memory A tasting menu, specially created for the evening by DIMDAN MAIDAN, accompanied the discussions. Inspired by Hong Kong street food and Cha Chaan Teng culture, the menu offered a sensory journey through iconic flavours, including Hong Kong–style lemon tea, curry fish balls, char siu, wontons, braised beef noodles and traditional sweets. More than a culinary moment, the tasting extended the themes explored through words and images, reminding participants that taste is one of the most immediate and intimate carriers of memory. Following the discussion, Pen So remained to engage with the audience, signing postcards and exchanging thoughts in an open and welcoming setting. The exhibition “Hong Kong: Through Memories”, featuring works from See You in Memories and City of Darkness, has been on view since 6 February 2025, allowing visitors to further explore this dialogue between art, place and remembrance.
